Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from therapy?
The first few sessions are generally for us to get to know each other, for me to understand you and your situation and for you to see if I’m the right fit for you. Before the first session there will be some paperwork and discussions about the process of therapy overall. Following through from that, we’ll talk about your situation and work on your main concerns. I’ll likely ask you questions about your current situation as well as about your personal history. We’ll discuss about your goals for therapy, together form a joint understanding of your circumstances, talk about my approach, and discuss how frequently we will meet.
If I’m not the right psychologist for you, let me know and I can support you through finding other options.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes I do. When you book your appointments, you can choose to have an in-person or telehealth session. Telehealth sessions are offered through Google Meet (HIPAA compliant). To prepare for telehealth sessions, make sure you have access to a quiet and private space for your appointment, and that your device is fully charged and has adequate internet speed.
What are the fees?
Standard individual counselling sessions are $250 for a 50-minute session. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you can access a $141.85 Medicare rebate per session. Medicare provides rebates for 10 sessions each calendar year (January to December). TCTSY sessions are offered at $120 for an individual 50-minute session.
If things pop up last minute and you need to change your appointment, please contact me as soon as possible. Note that a minimum of 48 hours notice is needed to avoid a 50% cancellation fee and missed sessions without notice will be charged 100% of the session rate. Please note that Medicare rebates are however not applicable to missed sessions or late cancellations.
What if I don’t have a referral or a Mental Health Treatment Plan?
You can still access therapy privately without a referral at the standard rates. Some private health insurance cover psychology sessions, however this will depend on your individual cover. It’s recommended that you check with your private health insurance for more information.
